IMG_2329CONGRATULATIONS to last year’s grade 7 graduate, Scott Thomson, who was recently awarded 1st Place in Academic Achievement alongside a slew of other recognitions in his first year of high school. A big shout out as well for his volunteer efforts with HEROS (Hockey Education Reaching Out Society)! Well done, Scott!

Father’s Day/End of the Year Picnic│Friday, June 10th: School will not be in session on this day. Families should go directly to the picnic site at 10:30am. Please see this week’s email for information on this year’s schedule of events and team organization, as well as some helpful reminders. There is a potluck sign up sheet posted on your child’s respective school’s door.

Supporting Diabetes Research in Our Community: Did you know that the average age a person is diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes is 12 years of age? Our Anchor Point student, Emma, who has Type 1 Diabetes, is raising money to support JDRF, which funds treatments, prevention and an eventual cure for those living with by Type 1. ANCHOR POINT COMMUNITY
Parent Conferences │Sign-up sheets will be posted by the door on Monday, June 6th. If you cannot find a suitable time for the meeting, please let us know to reschedule another time or day.

Anchor Point Graduation Ceremony │Thursday, June 16th at 3pm: Invitations to the families of the Graduating class have been sent. All families in the Anchor Point community are invited and welcome to join the celebration!

CAT Tests: Our grade 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 students will start the preparation for the CAT tests shortly. We will be administering tests until the end of the year. The CAT is a testing system that assesses the essential learning outcomes of the following basic skills areas: reading, language, spelling, and mathematics. Once the results are in, we will send you a file with your child’s results. You are also welcome to have the original. Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Michelle and Ms. Silvia should you have any further questions.

Spring Tennis Lessons: Our spring tennis lessons will continue every Wednesday until June 22nd. Your child will need to come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear, a water bottle, and, if possible, their own tennis racquet.

Lynn Canyon Park Excursion, Monday, June 20th: Upper Elementary and Ms. Sharmeen’s students will be visiting this spectacular second-growth rain forest, which offers a range of hiking trails for all abilities. The students will explore nature through a self-guided adventure and learn about North Vancouver’s eco-system. We will be taking transit for this field trip (sea bus and North Vancouver buses). Please ensure your child has a compass card loaded with appropriate funds. We will depart Anchor Point promptly 9:30am. Don’t forget to check the weather on the day of the field trip and send your child to school with the appropriate clothing and footwear.  Students should also bring a bagged lunch and snacks. We will be back for regular dismissal at 4pm.  Permission forms are due by Thursday, June 16th, if your child would like to participate

Farm Update: The Upper Elementary children are scheduled to go to the Farm on June 6th , and June 13th. On these days, students will leave Anchor Point at 11:15am and will depart Richmond at approximately 4pm. They are expected to arrive back at Anchor Point approximately 5pm. You’re welcome to pick up your child directly from the site in Richmond at 4pm, if you wish. If this is the case, please let us know in advance. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS A COMPASS CARD WITH A SUFFICIENT BALANCE FOR TRANSIT.

CASA COMMUNITY (PRE-SCHOOL & EXTENDED-DAY)
Butterfly Release! │Saturday, June 4th, at 3pm @ the Lions Gate Montessori Community Garden: It seems that the outdoor temperature will reach 22 degree Celsius on Saturday. The butterflies that have been growing at North Creek are ready and will be in the right condition to leave their cage for nature. If you are not sure where the community garden is located, please arrive at NC at 2:45pm and we can walk together. Everyone is invited to join us!

Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony │Tuesday, June 21 at 2:45pm:  Invitations to the families of the Graduating class have been sent. All families and AM Preschool children in the Casa community are invited and welcome to join the celebration at NC. PM Preschool children will be joining as part of their school day activity. Please RSVP to northcreek@ lionsgatemontessori.org.

Community Gardening: We need help with weeding and watering! If you are able to help with the Lions Gate Montessori Community Garden (located next to the Aquatic Centre, under the Burrard Bridge beside the Seawall), please to let us know. We will contact you to arrange a schedule and give you further information.

Brahm’s Tams – June 7th @ 5m to 10pm: Experience togetherness every sunny Tuesday at 3rd Beach Stanley Park, after work until the sun sets. All are welcome to this free family-friendly gathering celebrating its 11th year of rhythm, unity and community. Hats Off Day – Saturday, June 4, 2016,9:30am to 4pm: Hats Off Day takes place along Hastings Street between Boundary Road and Gamma Avenue. Join us as our streets get packed with families, friends, neighbours, and merchants! The parade begins at 10:00 AM along Hastings Street from Beta Avenue to Boundary Road and the street festival kicks off at 11:00 AM with lots of music, food and kids activities. Hats Off Day is when Heights merchants “take their hats off” to their community and their customers, and the entire Heights community celebrates together. It’s a huge, one-day extravaganza featuring a colourful main-street style parade with real local flavour, and a big street party afterwards.

Free Intro to Slacklining – June 1 to June 7: Slacklining is one of the best ways to find presence and mindfulness. There will be free meetup every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:00 am at Memorial South Park until June 7, 2016.

Vancouver Outdoor Pools: Here’s a quick guide for a fun splash! Vancouver’s outdoor pools operate through the Labour Day weekend. For full operating hours, check the pool schedules.
Kitsilano Pool: “Kits” Pool is Vancouver’s only saltwater swimming pool.
Second Beach Pool: Second Beach Pool is a heated, outdoor pool located near the beach, trails, and forest of Stanley Park. It features a a sloped entry and gradual depths for families, and separated lanes for lap swimmers.
New Brighton Pool: New Brighton Pool is a heated, outdoor pool in Vancouver’s Sunrise neighbourhood that offers regular length swimming and a sloped, beach-style entry for young children.
Maple Grove Pool: Maple Grove Pool is a heated, outdoor shallow pool in Vancouver’s Kerrisdale neighbourhood. The landscaped, summer water park has a maximum depth of 3.5m.
Hillcrest Aquatic Centre: Hillcrest Aquatic Centre is part of Hillcrest Centre, a legacy of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver. The city’s largest aquatic facility includes an indoor pool, outdoor pool, and a fitness centre.

Project Limelight presents #Fairytale with our very own Anchor Point student, Tallulah Pantages: Project Limelight Society presents #FAIRYTALE (Hashtag FAIRYTALE), featuring 24 young performers, ages 8 – 15, who have worked together to create an amazing show for their friends, family and community. #FAIRYTALE, is an all-ages comedy about a young boy, Cinder Fella, and his unexpected journey to become a YOUTUBE sensation with the help of his Fairy Godmothers and YOUTUBE stars, PRINCESS CHARMING and LADY HAHA. The play features great music, audience interaction, huge laughs, fun FAIRYTALE characters and of course, a happy ending.

Playland │Saturday, May 7, 2016 – Sunday, September 18, 2016: The smell of Mini Donuts is in the air at Hastings Park! One of the surest signs that spring is in full swing and summer is right around the corner is the return of Vancouver’s most beloved family entertainment attraction, as Playland at the PNE is set to open its gates to the public for the 2016 season on May 7th.

Environmental Extravaganza Events│now until June 8th: Check out the fifth week of Surrey’s 19th Annual Environmental Extravaganza!
