This year the students celebrated Thanksgiving together over a nutritious and delicious school-cooked feast! Over the course of the day, students contributed their creative and culinary talents to make from scratch our annual Stone Soup, garlic and onion bread, roasted squash, and our dessert of pumpkin pie and apple crumble. We shared as a group what we are thankful for before serving ourselves buffet-style.
Later that day, Dr John Barnhill, who spent a number of years working with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) came to speak to us about his experience as a surgeon in Somalia. Through learning about the various health, social, and political issues affecting people in East Africa, we came to a greater understanding about how much we truly do have to be thankful for.
