In 2002, parents of Lions Gate Montessori were invited by the school’s founder, Riza Weinstein, to serve and assist the school in accordance with the Montessori approach as directed by the school authority. The Lions Gate Montessori Parent Support Group works with the school’s administration, staff and parents to enhance the educational experience of our students by supporting and implementing events and activities that build community and enrich the school’s learning environment.
The 2019/2020 PSG Executive has been officially elected! We’d like to extend warmest thanks to all PSG members for volunteering their time and efforts this past year. We sadly bid adieu to Erika Pantages and Katie Reynolds. Their service and support have been invaluable, and they will be deeply missed. Join us in welcoming newly elected executives Jennifer MacNeil as President, Cathy Vincent as Vice-President, Alexandra Kutrovits as Treasurer, Michelle Sibley as Secretary, and Members-At-Large volunteers, Dulce Feder, Marijke Wortman, Sandra Cheng, and Daniela Ang. Hello to all Families of Lions Gate Montessori,
Another great year has come and gone! This year the PSG was able to use all of the Gaming Funds towards the Grouse Mountain Field Trip for the Elementary and Kindergarten/Ex Day Students where they learned about the Hiwus First Nations people. The children had a wonderful day on the mountain where they also snow shoed and had a Hiwus First Nations lunch.
This year was a big year for most of the Upper Elementary students who attended the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) conference in Rome in May. They all worked hard on their position papers and learned about the countries they were representing (Uganda and India). They all had a fantastic experience and have come back with lots of great memories and stories to share. Thank you to the teachers, Ms Ashley and Ms Riza for their patience and effort in assisting the students and in accompanying them on this amazing trip along with Mr Lyle. I also wanted to extend a HUGE thank you to all the families in the greater Lions Gate Montessori community especially to those that helped significantly with our fund-raising efforts to raise money for the trip (the bake sales, plant fund fundraisers etc).
Moving forward to the next school year 2019-2020, there may be another significant field trip for the Upper Elementary so please look out for an email closer to the start of the next school year to form a fund-raising committee.
Last but not least, it has been a privilege to serve on the PSG the last 5 years and as the President for the last 2 years. It has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside the other dedicated parents in our community in supporting the school in their endeavours where ever we are able to assist. I look forward to another great year in 2019-2020 under the guidance of the next President, Jennifer MacNeil.
