Hot Lunch Update: Orders are still open for June. If you have ordered for June already, please forward us your confirmation order. Thank you! June orders closing date is Wednesday, May 25th 4pm

Art Auction & Live Entertainment begins Friday, May 27th, 5pm, at Anchor Point Montessori: We’ll be hosting an art auction filled with live entertainment for parents, family members, and caregivers. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Student Enrichment Fund. We will be auctioning masterpieces made by our Elementary and Extended-day students. Admission will be a bottle of wine per family or another beverage of your choice plus a donation to the Student’s Enrichment Fund.

5pm                           Doors open at Anchor Point Montessori; Child care for the auction begins at North Creek Montessori

** Please note that the After School Club will run as usual on that day, except it will be located at North Creek Montessori. Elementary children that are performing/hosting are welcome to stay in school from 3:30pm onward. We will be also offering child care together with After School Club during the auction. Children attending child care will have the option to have pizza and veggies for dinner. Please see the confirmation/order form. We will be also screening a child-friendly movie.

ANCHOR POINT COMMUNITY

Parent/Child Workshop │Thursday, May 19th: This is a time for your child to show you some of the work they have been doing at school. While regular dismissal at 4pm is in effect, each family is invited to return at their assigned time slot for the event. The Parent/Child Workshop sheet with assigned time slots will be posted on Monday, May 9th. Please RSVP by email to confirm your attendance with your child. If you wish to change the time on your invitation, please let a teacher know. We will do our best to reschedule your visit. Thank you!

Spring Tennis Lessons: Our spring tennis lessons will start on May 18th and will be carried our every Wednesday until June 22nd. Your child will need to come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear, a water bottle, and, if possible, their own tennis racquet.
Spring Swimming Lessons: Students will have our last swimming lesson next Wednesday, May 11th. Please ensure your child has the appropriate swimming attire. Thank you!

Farm Visit Update: Farm visits continue! Check out Facebook for pictures of what has been planted and how things are growing. There may soon be some items that are harvestable and ready for sale! The students have already been sampling (sometimes more than just sampling!) our organic winter spinach, arugula and chives. We have also been sampling the delights of sage marjoram and are looking forward to an earlier than usual harvest of garlic. We will be collecting kale and chives seeds soon and look forward to collecting arugula seeds later in the season as well. Upper Elementary children are scheduled to go on the following dates: May 9th, May 16th, May 30th, June 6th, June 13th and June 20th. On these days, students will leave Anchor Point at 11:15am and will depart Richmond at approximately 4pm. They are expected to arrive back at Anchor Point approximately 5pm. You’re welcome to pick up your child directly from the site in Richmond at 4pm, if you wish. If this is the case, please let us know in advance. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS A COMPASS CARD WITH A SUFFICIENT BALANCE FOR TRANSIT.

CASA COMMUNITY (PRE-SCHOOL & EXTENDED-DAY)
Congratulations to the Schneider family on the birth of your twins! Mika is a big sister to 2 precious bundles of joy with double the fun and kisses. May you have a wonderful life full of joy, love, and happiness!

Mother’s Day @ VanDusen Botanical Garden │Sunday, May 8th: Bring your mom for a walk through 55 acres of trails, lakes and flowers at the beautiful VanDusen Botanical Garden. Enjoy live jazz music and a photo booth at Heron Lake. Bring a picnic lunch, visit a special outdoor pop-up café by Truffles or make a reservation to dine at Shaughnessy Restaurant. Regular garden admission applies. Here’s the schedule for the day:

Harpist in the plaza – 11am to 3pm
Photo booth at Heron Lake – 11am to 5pm
Jazz band at Heron Lake – 12pm to 4pm

East Van Mother’s Day Bazaar │Sunday, May 8th 12pm to 5pm: The East Van Mother’s Day Bazaar is more than a market, it’s a manifestation of creativity! Join them this May 8th (bring your mom too!) to celebrate and explore a thriving community of local artists, artisans, makers, shakers, doers and dreamers. Tickle your fancy with a distinct selection of hand-crafted jewelry, local woodwork , new gadgets, oddities, trinkets, collectibles, cool handmade items, vintage reworks, and heaps more!

Vancouver Bird Week @ Stanley Park │Saturday, May 7th 9am: Have you wondered what types of birds visit your garden? Or, how to plant a garden that attracts birds? Join them for an easy 2 hour tour of the Native Plant Demonstration Garden in Stanley Park. Learn about what birds you can expect to see in a native plant garden and the importance of these plants for perching, hiding, and feeding.

Got Craft? Spring Edition │Saturday, May 7th and Sunday, May 8th 10am to 5pm: Started in May 2007, Got Craft? is a modern twist on the conventional craft fair. It is a curated boutique event started to showcase handmade work by some of our favourite artists and provide Vancouver the opportunity to shop for one-of-a-kind goods. Got Craft? brings together a community that fosters indie-craft and DIY culture! To know more, click on the link above.

Fingerling Festival 25th Anniversary │Saturday, May 7th 11am to 3pm: The 25th annual Fingerling Festival at Noons Creek Hatchery offers fun for the whole family. Join in this popular community activity to release more than 40,000 young salmon into Noon Creek and watch them start their journey to the Pacific Ocean. In addition to more than 60 vendors and community partners, Bobs & Lolo will perform and there will be oodles of kid-friendly activities.

Vancouver Photo Walks│now until December 12th: A photo walk is a fun and practical way to learn the basics of photography while exploring the city. Come and see the urban architecture of Vancouver’s Convention Centre, and the iconic white sails of Canada Place! We’ll take in the downtown cityscape, and walk along the waterfront for spectacular views of the marina and the mountains of the North Shore.

Family Day @ the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art│ Saturdays until May 28, 2016: Bring your kids to the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art on Saturdays. Kids can explore exhibitions, take part in art discoveries and use interactive ‘Discovery’ tables where they (and you!) can participate and learn more about the amazing art in the gallery. Staff are on site to get young people started, and keep them going, as they explore the world of Canadian art. Event Dates: Weekly on Saturday until May 28, 2016.
