Round Table Group Discussion│Monday, December 12, 4:30pm to 5:30pm @ North Creek: We invite all members of the community to join us for a Group Discussion on the overview of Montessori Pedagogy. This provides us with a great opportunity to answer any questions you may have after your Parent Conference. Limited childcare is available for children over 5 years old. Winter Performance Party and Craft Fair 2016│Wednesday, December 14th: This will be held at the Roundhouse Community Centre. There are no regular classes scheduled for students that day. Please find more information, as well as the seat reservation request, in the attached form. There is no fee for attending the Winter Party. The slip attached should be submitted for our records due to limited seating capacity in the venue. Initially, we are reserving 2 seats per family. On Monday, December 12, the week of the performance, we will know if there are additional seats available. Please email us if you are interested in more seats, should they become available.

Parent Conferences│December 9th: Sign-up sheets have been posted beside the downstairs door at North Creek. If you would like to reschedule, please let a teacher know and we will do our best to accommodate you. There is no school for the children on this date. Arts Umbrella Dance Company: Mixed Nuts│December 16th: Kindergarten/Ex-Day students will be attending this classic holiday performance reinvented with a twist. Please read the information on the Permission Form and return it to school by Monday, November 28th.
ELEMENTARY & ADOLESCENT COMMUNITY
CBC Newsroom Tour│December 2 │8:45am: Ms. Frances’s students will take a behind the scenes tour to see how radio, television and digital programs are created at CBC’s state-of-the-art newsroom. They’ll meet CBC hosts and reporters, and even get a chance to try being a weather presenter! After the tour, students will be part of the live audience for a local CBC Radio One show with live music in Studio 700.
CBC is offering this opportunity as part of their Food Bank fundraising drive and asks our group to make a donation for this visit. Funds donated will be from our Students Enrichment account, but students are also welcome to donate on their own. Food Bank volunteers will be on site accepting cash donations. Note that Food Banks can use their wholesale buying power to purchase three dollars’ worth of food for every dollar donated. There is no need to fill a permission slip for this outing. Please drop your child off at CBC, 700 Hamilton St. at 8:30am.
An Afternoon of Code │ Friday, December 2: Ms. Frances’s students will spend the afternoon learning to code. School laptops will be used but students who have an ongoing interest in code are strongly encouraged to bring their own devices to school to save their coding programs on.
Parent Conferences│Friday, December 9th: Please note that the sign up sheet has been posted by the entrance of Anchor Point. Choose a time slot that is convenient for your family. There will be no regular school for students that day. If you are unable to attend and would like to find a time that better suits you, please email us .
Upper Elementary│Hansel and Gretel Opera, Wednesday, December 7, 12:30pm: The Upper Elementary children will have the opportunity to attend the Hansel and Gretel Opera at the Vancouver Playhouse! Please submit the permission slip no later than Monday, November 21st. The fee for this wonderful treat is covered by the PSG Gaming Fund.
Physical Education│Functional Fitness Training: We are pleased to offer Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary students the opportunity to participate in functional fitness training lessons at Dynasty Gym. Dynasty Fitness for Kids uses a combination of skill practice, workouts and games to build strength and conditioning in children. These classes include elements of gymnastics, weight lifting, body weight movements, running, jump roping, and more. Using activities that kids naturally enjoy, the program provides a fitness training that is safe, fun and energetic. The program uses a combination of skill practice, workouts and games to build strength and conditioning in children. The lessons will take place at the Dynasty Gym (1449 Hornby St.) by professionals equipped to teach students and to adjust their program accordingly to our age group. Although the groups are not yet divided, our meeting dates are the following: Wednesdays, from 1pm to 2pm: January 11th, 18th and 25th; February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and March 1st. Should you wish to enroll your child in the above lessons, please return your signed permission slip signed to the school by Thursday, December 8th.

Eastside Culture Crawl │Thursday, November 17 to Sunday, November 20, 2016: A four-day visual arts, design and crafts festival receiving more than 25,000 visitors to 475+ artists in their studios across 78 buildings in the area bounded by Columbia Street, 1st Avenue, Victoria Drive and the waterfront in Vancouver, Canada. Erika and Tallulah Pantages (our Grade 4 student) will take part in the event selling their amazing pillows. Check them out by clicking here here.
Crawling for Kids, November 19 and 20, 2016 from 12-3pm, 936 Clark Drive, Vancouver: The studio of Melk Art & Design will be hosting a children’s event to celebrate the Eastside Culture Crawl (ECC). This year, with the support of the ECC and Opus Art Supplies, Melk is extending an invitation to parents to bring their children into the Melk studio to create their own screen-printed and stenciled works of art. This event encourages the participation of children in the ECC, allowing them to experience their own creativity in a unique studio space with guidance from a working artist. Kids Days at Melk gives children the opportunity engage with the visual arts in their community on a tactile level and foster a love of the arts. Melk, along with the Eastside Culture Crawl and Opus aim to cultivate a strong sense of art and community in East Vancouver’s children and future generations of artists. It will be the third year running, with over 200 kids visiting over the two days. Process: Young artists will have access to watercolour paints, pencil crayons and stencil shapes to create a background or landscape for their work-of-art. Next they choose an image to screen-print (illustrations provided by the artist and already on screens). With guidance from the artist kids will screen-print their chosen illustration on their own. Come Soar Over America at FlyOver Canada │Now until Wednesday, November23, 2016: For a limited time only, experience America like never before with FlyOver America. Soar over 10,000 miles across some of the United States’ most beautiful landscapes including Hawaii, Alaska, New York and more! Like FlyOver Canada’s ride film, FlyOver America was shot over all four seasons from coast to coast. The complete FlyOver America experience will last between 20 – 25 minutes, and includes:

VSO Symphonic Encounters OpenRehearsal: Best of Broadway │Friday, November 18, 2016: VSO’s open rehearsal program, Symphonic Encounters, takes you behind the scenes to discover what it takes for the musicians, conductors, and production team of the Vancouver Symphony to prepare for a world class concert.
