The BC Science Games Registration for elementary students in grades 1 through 6 will be going live soon! This year, the games are virtual and students will not be grouped within a school or led by their teachers at school. Instead, the BC Science Games organizers will place students in virtual groups led by BC Science Games Mentor volunteers. Students who join the games may suggest a list of friends that they wish to be teamed up with. Please let us know if you have any questions. Our teachers will be happy to survey students who are interested in joining the games and clarify any questions they may have.

LGMS students took home the “Most Creative Team” in 2019, and were awarded the Silver Medal as well as the “Most innovative Team” last year – the only team taking home two medals!  Take a look at the photos from Science Games 2020 and see if you can spot our team members!

NORTH CREEK COMMUNITY (PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN) REMINDERS & NOTES

DAILY ZOOM LINKS We deeply appreciate everyone’s vigilance in checking for signs of illness, and keeping your sick child(ren) home. Students who are kept home but are up to participating in lessons are welcome to join us online. Daily Zoom links are sent out to all families automatically, so please fill out the Remote Learning Agreement on  Transparent Classroom if you wish for your child to join the class online while resting and recovering at home. Remote learning sessions for all preschoolers – even those who attend the afternoon class are held from 8:45 am to 11:30 am.

FLOWERS I Flower Arranging is one of the Practical Life activities that children enjoy in the Casa. We invite families in our community to bring a bouquet of flowers (without thorns, woody, or prickly parts) to our environment every first day of the week. Please write the name of your child on the sheet fixed on North Creek’s window. Thank you for your generosity!

CLOTHING & OTHER ITEMS I With the cold and wet season upon us, we kindly ask you to dress your child appropriately for the weather. Rain pants/rain suits can be added to their school bags if they don’t wear them to come to school. Please also remember to label all your child(ren)’s clothing and personal belongings such as jackets, shoes, hats, water bottles, food containers, and bags. Thank you very much!

We’d like to give a bit more life to some household items you may otherwise throw away. Below are some that we would be happy to incorporate in our daily Practical Life activities so please feel free to send them our way instead of throwing them out:
1) Cleaned eggshells
2) Used child-size leather shoes.
3) Old newspapers

ANAPHYLAXIS REMINDER! North Creek is a nut-free environment as there are children with life-threatening allergy (anaphylaxis) reactions who attend school in the afternoon class session. The triggers are pecans, cashews, pistachios, walnuts, and whole eggs. So please refrain from sending these foods to school. At this time, morning students with severe allergies are not attending school in person.  The school is following the VCH guidelines, the families are working with the school, and our PM Preschool and Extended Day are working as a community to learn how to be supportive to those in this situation. Teachers and students will be asked to wash their hands vigilantly and regularly, both at North Creek and in the Extended Day classroom at Anchor Point. This is a wonderful way to introduce other foods for snacks and lunches to the school environment as you introduce your child to anaphylaxis awareness. Thank you to the Griffith family for suggesting WowButter, a nut-free spread made with natural non-GMO ingredients. For more information, please visit Food Allergy Canada. Thank you very much for your attention and assistance.

ANCHOR POINT I GRADES 1 & UP REMINDERS & NOTES

MASK REMINDER: Kindly pack an extra cloth mask in your child’s bag at any time so it can be used when we need to attend the Dance Center every Friday.

Upper Elementary Devices I  Please make sure your child charges his/her laptop/tablet every evening before the following school day in order to ensure that not too many charging cables are plugged across the classroom during the day. Thank you for your help!

FSA Assessment |As per the Deputy Minister’s announcement dated 2021-01-08, the Grades 4 and 7 Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) administration has been postponed. Assessment administration will run from February 15, 2021 to March 12, 2021. Please visit the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) web page for the updated calendar of important FSA dates.

ZUMBA & FITNESS | Eleentary students will resume their Zumba and Fitness classes at The Dance Center on Fridays from 9 to 11am. UE students are to be dropped off at school at 8:40am so they can leave their school bag at school. They will then walk together to the Dance Center. If you are late, please drop your child’s school bag at school and then drop your child at The Dance Center as students are not allowed to enter the building with their bags. LE students will have their Fitness class from 10 to 11am so please drop them off at school as usual. They will then walk to the Dance Center with their teachers.
